Chaplain Aveling introduces our President & CEO, Dr. Richard Darling,
DDS. Chaplain
Aveling frequently
lectures on ethical issues and the title slide of Dr. Darling's
presentation echoes that theme. The students here are part of Chaplain
Aveling's
class entitled "Personal
and Professional Ethics for Physical Therapy Assistant Students"

At the onset of his presentation, Dr. Darling
introduces FAIR's Board of Directors. Here we see
John Fung, MD, who is
Chairman of the Dept. of General Surgery and Director of the Transplant
Center at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Fung performed
the first high-profile transplant
on an HIV patient--activist
Larry Kramer--and recently Dr. Fung received the AASLD (American
Association for the Study of Liver Diseases) 2007 Achievement in Liver
Transplantation
Award.

Chaplain Aveling and his class prepare to hear the
opening portion of Dr. Darling's presentation:
the
Disease Politics video. Produced by the American Diabetes
Association and ABC TV, this
video powerfully shows the need for more fair and equitable bio-medical research
funding.

In the video, Parkinson's disease patient, Joan
Samuelson, walks the halls of Congress to
bring awareness of the need for more fair allocation of funds. Ms.
Samuelson inspired our Founder
to give 100 similar presentations in the Senate and House office
buildings.

In his slide show, Dr. Darling refutes the claims of
AIDS activists that HIV/AIDS is a serious problem
for children. The number of HIV cases in 2005 has plummeted to 68 and
the number of deaths
in children under age 13 =
seven.
